João heads MdME’s intellectual property practice. As one of the most experienced and active lawyers in the field of intellectual property, he advises clients on an array of intellectual property matters, ranging from advising and assisting on prosecution of applications for trade mark, design, patent and other IP rights in Macau and overseas, drafting, execution and record of licenses, assignments and other endorsements of IP rights, to handling high-profile trademark oppositions, cancellation actions and court appeals, while assisting clients with enforcement of their IP rights.

Furthermore, he advises clients on commercial, legal and regulatory issues occurring in the information technology, telecommunications, media and e-commerce industries. He regularly assists clients on negotiating software development contracts, outsourcing, licensing, distribution and confidentiality and a variety of computer services agreements. João also advises clients on a range of electronic communication issues, including litigation, web site development and operation, data ownership and privacy issues.

Additionally, as a Private Notary in Macau, João handles a full range of notarizations and certifications required under Macau law, particularly full notarial and conveyancing assistance in relation to the sale and purchase of real estate properties (pre-sale and effective ownership transfers) and real estate acquisition financing.
