News | 05 December 2019 in Jornal de Negócios

Tirso Olazabal, in a commentary to Jornal de Negócios, talks about the growing interest of Hong Kong citizens in Portuguese real estate investment by obtaining gold visas.

The Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (Foreigners and Borders Service) reports that since 2012 it has granted 4,424 permits to Chinese citizens (218 in the first half of 2019), without discriminating against the region of origin.

Tirso states that "Since the launch of the Golden Visa program in 2012, Asian demand has generally been associated with Chinese citizens from mainland China. However, the case has changed regarding Hong Kong residents, as there is now a real need to look for a second residence to safeguard the future".
