Amendment of Labour Relations Law

法律资讯 | 27 七月 2026

The amendment of Labour Relations Law - Law no. 7/2008 (the “Law”) was approved on 21 July 2026 by Law no. 9/2026 and is being published today (27 July 2026).

Amendment of Labour Relations Law

These are the changes:

Maternity Leave

The minimum maternity leave is now increased to 90 days from the previous 70 days. Female employees may use 30 days before or after confinement and 60 days immediately after.

This change shall be effective from 28 July 2026.

Annual Leave

The minimum annual leave is under a progressive regime, from a flat minimum of 6 days, to adding one day for every two years of service, up to a cap of 12 days.

To facilitate the counting of progressive annual leave, the amendment also provides for the possibility of employer and employee agreeing on anticipated annual leave. Employees may enjoy annual leave during the first year of service (instead of the next calendar year as stated previously in the Law). Annual leave shall accrue proportionally for each month of service.

This change shall be effective from 1 January 2027.
